The initial investigation found that Gowen was driving a 2018 Ford F-150, heading east on Louisiana Highway 6. For reasons that are still being investigated, his vehicle left the roadway and collided with several trees after traveling down the ditch embankment.
Unfortunately, despite being restrained, Gowen suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities have obtained routine toxicology samples, which are currently being analyzed.
While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, LSP noted that distracted and inattentive driving is a significant cause of accidents in Louisiana. The Louisiana State Police urges all drivers to remain vigilant and focused while driving, as a moment of inattention can have deadly consequences.
So far in 2023, Troop E has investigated 33 fatal crashes, resulting in 38 deaths.
