Louisiana Man Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash After Colliding with a Vehicle Making a Left Turn
Waggaman, Louisiana – A 45-year-old Louisiana man died in a two-vehicle crash on LA 18 when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a Chevrolet Suburban as it was making a left turn.
According to Louisiana State Police, around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023, Troopers from LSP Troop B responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 18 at Rusty Road in Waggaman, Louisiana. Charles Hebert, 45, of Ama, Louisiana, died as a result of the crash.
Hebert was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on LA 18 near Rusty Road, behind a 1990 Chevrolet Suburban, according to the preliminary inquiry. The Chevrolet began to turn left onto Rusty Road as it approached the intersection. Hebert attempted to pass the Chevrolet on the left side when it was making the left turn. The Harley-Davidson collided with the front left side of the Chevrolet, causing Hebert to be thrown off the motorcycle.
Despite wearing a helmet, Hebert had serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he subsequently died. The Chevrolet driver was not properly restrained, received minor injuries, and was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. Toxicology samples from both drivers will be submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Troopers recommend that all riders take an official motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding techniques and assist you in using safe riding tactics that can help lower your risk of injury in the event of a mishap.
