Louisiana Man Faces Up to 10 Years in Prison Following an Indictment for Violations of Federal Firearms Laws

Louisiana – The Department of Justice U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Louisiana announced on July 5, 2022, that Corey Hale, 32, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged on June 30, 2022, in a four-count indictment by a federal grand jury for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

If convicted, Hale faces up to ten years in prison, a $250,000.00 fine, up to three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

This case is being prosecuted as part of the federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which is at the heart of the Department of Justice’s efforts to reduce violent crime. PSN is an evidence-based program that has been shown to reduce violent crime. PSN brings together a diverse range of stakeholders to identify the most pressing violent crime issues in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and collaborates with community-based prevention and reentry programs to achieve long-term crime reductions.

U. S. Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Louisiana State Police, and the New Orleans Police Department all looked into the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Trummel is prosecuting the case.
