Louisiana Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash on US 90 After His Truck Drove Off Road, Struck a Utility Pole, and Flipped into a Drainage Canal.

New Iberia, Louisiana – A 62-year-old Louisiana man died in a single-vehicle crash after his Ford F-150 drove off the road, struck a utility pole, and flipped into a drainage canal.

On January 16, 2023, Louisiana State Police stated that soon before 8:00 a.m., LSP Troop I was notified of a single-vehicle fatal crash on South Lewis Street near the intersection with US Highway 90. John Rodrigue, 62, of New Iberia, Louisiana, died in the crash.

According to the preliminary inquiry, Rodrigue was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 south on South Lewis Street. For reasons currently under investigation, the F-150 drove off the roadway to the right and struck a utility pole before entering a drainage canal and overturned.

Rodrigue, who was restrained at the time of the incident, was unable to exit the flooded F-150 and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rodrigue’s toxicological sample was taken and sent for testing.

While the cause of this incident is still being investigated, Louisiana State Police indicated that motorists should always make sound decisions when driving motor vehicles. Never drive while intoxicated, fatigued, or distracted.

So far in 2023, LSP Troop I has investigated six deadly crashes that resulted in seven deaths.
