Louisiana Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash on I-12 After Running Off Roadway and Striking a Tree

Madisonville, Louisiana – A Louisiana man died in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish after his vehicle went off the road and hit a tree.

Louisiana State Police reported on January 14, 2023, that on January 13, soon after 9:00 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 near LA Hwy 1077 in St. Tammany Parish. The deceased’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The incident occurred while the driver was driving westbound on Interstate 12 in a 2015 Chrysler 200, according to the preliminary investigation. The Chrysler went off the road to the right for reasons that are still being investigated. The Chrysler hit a tree after leaving the road.

Despite being securely restrained, the driver suffered major injuries as a result of the accident. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. A regular toxicological sample was acquired from the driver for analysis as part of the continuing investigation.

Troopers want to urge drivers to always make wise decisions when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always obey all traffic laws. While not all car accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
