Garyville, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B were informed of a single-vehicle crash on US 61 near LA 54 in Garyville, Louisiana that occurred around 10:40 pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Unfortunately, 44-year-old Conrad Jones from Reserve, Louisiana lost his life in the crash.

Initial findings showed that Jones was operating a 2006 Ford truck heading north on US 61 close to LA 54. The truck veered off the road for unknown reasons, passed through a ditch, and flipped over several times.

According to Louisiana State Police, Jones was not wearing a seatbelt during the collision, sustained severe injuries, and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. LSP indicated that it is not clear if impairment was a factor, but tests were conducted to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role. The cause of the crash is still being looked into.

Troopers want to stress to the public that although not all crashes can be survived, reducing speed and wearing a seatbelt greatly decreases the chances of being injured or killed in a crash. Speeding makes it harder to control your vehicle and react to dangerous situations on the road. Before driving, taking the time to buckle up properly can make a significant difference in preventing serious injuries. It is also important to follow all traffic laws and stick to speed limits to improve safety on the road.
