Louisiana Man Dies in Crash on LA 1 After Vehicle Becomes Submerged, Authorities Asking for Help Determining Who was Driving

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported that on July 11, 2022, shortly before 1:00 a.m., LSP Troop C was notified of a single-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 1 near West 55th Street in Cut Off, Louisiana. Michael Guill, 43, of Cut Off, Louisiana, died in the crash.

According to preliminary investigations, a 2003 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA Hwy 1 when it went off the road while in a curve. The driver attempted to return to the roadway but overcorrected, causing the truck to rotate as it traveled off the roadway before overturning and becoming submerged in Bayou Lafourche. Guill died at the scene after being unable to exit the submerged truck. An additional occupant in the truck was able to escape with minor injuries. The use of seatbelts by the two occupants is unknown at this time.

This crash is still being investigated as Troopers try to figure out who was driving at the time. More information will be made available as it becomes available.
