Louisiana Man Cited with Multiple Hunting Violations, Drug Charges, Trespassing Charges, and Firearms Charges
Assumption Parish, Louisiana – A Louisiana man has been cited in Assumption Parish for multiple hunting violations, possession of marijuana, criminal trespassing, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) stated on January 4, 2023, that enforcement agents cited a Pierre Part, Louisiana man on January 1 in Assumption Parish for alleged illegal drugs and hunting infractions.
Agents cited Jasson Hebert, 49, of Pierre Part, Louisiana for hunting wild quadrupeds during illegal hours, taking an alligator during a closed season, hunting deer without a deer license and deer tags, failing to validate deer harvest, possession of marijuana, criminal trespassing, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
After receiving a complaint that Hebert was hunting during illegal hours in Assumption Parish, agents set up surveillance in the region. On Jan. 1 at 2:30 a.m., agents noticed Hebert traveling through a swampy area, shining a light and carrying a .22 rifle. When agents got in contact with Hebert, he admitted to actively hunting.
Agents then detected a marijuana odor and discovered Hebert in possession of marijuana. Agents escorted him back to his home on foot, where they discovered a live infant alligator and a newly harvested deer carcass in his possession. Hebert admitted to taking the deer without a deer hunting license or deer tags.
Agents also discovered that Hebert did not have permission to be on the land where he was hunting. Agents also discovered an obliterated serial number on the gun he was hunting with.
Hunting wild quadrupeds within prohibited hours is punishable by a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in prison. Possession of an alligator during a closed season is punishable by a fine of $400 to $950 and up to 120 days in prison. Hunting deer without a deer license and tags, as well as neglecting to confirm deer harvest, can result in a $350 fine.
Possession of marijuana carries a fine of up to $100. Criminal trespassing is punishable by a fine of $100 to $500 and up to 30 days in prison. Possession of a firearm with obliterated serial numbers carries a $1,000 fine and a one-to-five-year prison sentence.
Hebert could also face civil restitution for the $1,624 in illegally taken deer.
Lt. Scott Dupre, Sgt. Gerald Sander, Corporal Jeremy Foret, and Corporal Christopher Hebert are the agents involved in the case.
A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
