Louisiana Man Cited for Multiple Hunting Violations After Allegedly Shooting a Deer on a Public Roadway
A man in Satsuma, Louisiana was cited for hunting deer without basic hunting and deer hunting licenses, hunting deer without deer tags, and hunting across a public road. He could face fines and possible imprisonment, as well as civil compensation for the illegally stolen deer’s replacement value.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) stated on December 27, 2022, that an enforcement agent cited a Satsuma, Louisiana man for alleged deer hunting infractions in Livingston Parish.
The agent cited Chad M. Blythe, 53, for hunting deer without basic hunting and deer hunting licenses, hunting deer without deer tags, and hunting across a public road.
Sgt. Edward Ridgel was on duty in the Satsuma, Louisiana area when he heard a gunshot and found a doe deer with a fatal gunshot wound on McArthur Dr. Sgt. Ridgel then observed a man with a rifle on his porch enter his home. He contacted Blythe at his home and admitted to shooting the deer with his .22 caliber rifle.
Sgt. Ridgel seized the deer and gave it to a local charity.
Hunting on a public roadway is punishable by a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in prison. Hunting without basic hunting and deer hunting licenses, as well as failing to possess deer tags, is punishable by a $350 fine per offense. Blythe could also face civil compensation of $1,624 for the illegally stolen deer’s replacement value.
A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
