Louisiana Man Cited for Multiple Deer Hunting Violations in St. Charles Parish

Louisiana - A Destrehan, Louisiana resident has been cited by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for failing to tag and validate a deer harvest and for failing to comply with harvest card requirements.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported on December 19, 2022, that enforcement agents cited a Destrehan, Louisiana resident on December 15 for alleged deer hunting infractions in St. Charles Parish.

Jason Chapman, age 42, was cited by agents for failing to tag deer, failing to validate deer harvest, and failing to comply with harvest card requirements.

Agents of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries received an anonymous report involving the disposal of a processed deer in a garbage can at a duplex in St. Charles Parish. To execute a search warrant, agents met Chapman at his residence.

Chapman admitted during the investigation to taking a six-point buck on a private hunting lease in Hahnville. The agents found that Chapman failed to report his harvest because he neither tagged the deer nor validated the harvest within the requisite 72 hours. Chapman also failed to complete the requisite harvest card record.

Agents confiscated the found meat from the undocumented deer and distributed it to a local charity.

Failure to tag deer, failure to validate deer harvest, and failure to comply with harvest records are all punishable by a fine of $100 to $350 and up to 60 days in jail.

Chapman may also be subject to civil restitution totaling $1,624.61 for the deer's replacement value.

The agents involved in the investigation are Sgt. Kyle Wagner, Cpl. Dylan Egan, and Agt. Heather Fitzgerald.

A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
