Louisiana Man Cited for Deer Hunting Violations After Allegedly Concealing a Deer, and Other Crimes

Louisiana – A Louisiana man was cited by state wildlife agents on January 15, 2023, for alleged deer hunting violations, including intentional concealment of wildlife, possession of an illegally taken deer, and hunting without a deer license.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) reported on January 23, 2023, that enforcement agents cited a New Iberia, Louisiana man on January 15 in Iberia Parish for alleged deer hunting violations.

Jarrod Ransonet, 45, was cited by agents for intentional concealment of wildlife, possession of an illegally taken deer, and hunting without a deer license.

Agents were on patrol during the archery-only season when they noticed two subjects fully dressed in camouflage loading hunting gear into their vehicle at the Patout Boat Launch. Agents made contact with the two subjects, who were later identified as Ransonet and a juvenile.

During questioning, Ransonet stated that they were out hunting wild hogs. Agents then noticed brown hair poking out of a stack of camouflage hunting jackets. A fresh dead antlerless deer shot with a rifle concealed beneath the jackets was discovered by agents.

The antlerless deer was seized and given to a local charity.

Wildlife concealment is punishable by a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Possession of an illegally taken deer is punishable by a fine of $400 to $950 and up to 120 days in jail. A $350 fine is levied for hunting without a deer license.

Ransonet could also face civil restitution of $1,624 for the illegally taken deer’s replacement value.

Sgt. Cullom Schexnyder and Agent Victoria Onebane are the agents involved in the case.

A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
