Louisiana Man Cited for Allegedly Hunting During Closed Season, Night Restrictions, and Other Violations
Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) stated on February 9, 2023, that agents issued a citation to a Lake Arthur, Louisiana man on February 3 for alleged hunting offenses in Jefferson Davis Parish.
Clay J. Hebert, 22 years old, was cited by agents for hunting deer during a closed season, violating outlaw quadrupeds night hunting restrictions, hunting deer during illegal hours, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and hunting without a basic hunting and deer hunting license.
Agents began investigating Hebert after finding he illegally killed a six-point deer at night and two pigs on January 29 and 30 between midnight and early morning. During questioning, Hebert revealed to agents that he shot the six-point buck with a .30 caliber rifle at night along Thornwell’s Highway 380 when he was with two juveniles.
Hunting deer within a closed season or during illegal hours carries a fine of $900 to $950 and up to 120 days in prison. Infractions of outlaw quadruped night hunting restrictions are punishable by a fine of $250 to $500 and up to 90 days in jail. Each infraction of hunting without a basic hunting and deer hunting license carries a maximum fine of $350. Contributing to a juvenile’s delinquency may result in a $1,000 fine and six months in jail.
Hebert might also be required to pay $1,624 in civil restitution for the illegally taken deer.
Sgt. David Sanford, Senior Agent Katie Mathias, Sgt. Anthony Verret, and Senior Agent Dylan Armentor are involved in the investigation.
A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
