Louisiana Man Cited Alleged Oyster and License Violations, Five Sacks of Oysters Seized

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported on September 9, 2022, that enforcement agents cited a Theriot, Louisiana man for alleged oyster offenses on September 7 in Terrebonne Parish.

Abelardo Carbajal, 59, of Theriot, Louisiana was cited by agents for not possessing a commercial vessel license and failing to complete logbook requirements.

Agents made contact with Carbajal when he was actively fishing for oysters near Taylors Bayou. Agents discovered that Carbajal had neglected to complete his logbook sheet for the fishing trip and did not have a current commercial vessel license during the stop.

Five sacks of oysters were seized and returned to the water by agents.

Failing to possess a commercial vessel license carries a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail. Failing to complete logbook requirements brings up to a $25 fine.

Corporal Norman Deroche and Agent Jebadiah Kraft are the agents involved in the case.
