Louisiana Man Charged In Connection with Threat to Injure U.S. Congresswoman

United States Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. announced the issuance of a federal arrest warrant and criminal complaint against Charles T. Germany, 66, of Walker, Louisiana, for interstate transmission of a threat to injure another.

According to the criminal complaint and supporting affidavit, on May 27, 2022, Germany called U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy’s office in Washington DC from his home in Walker, Louisiana, and left a voice message threatening to kill the Congresswoman. Later that day, Germany called the Congresswoman’s office again and left another threatening message. Mr. Germany could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

U.S. Attorney Gathe commended the outstanding actions and efforts of the law enforcement agencies, including the United States Capitol Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, who worked to quickly identify the suspect and bring this complaint.

Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer M. Kleinpeter is prosecuting this case.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
