Louisiana Man Arrested Suspected of Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin and Fentanyl After an Investigation by Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit

St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana – A Louisiana man has been arrested suspected of possession with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl after an investigation by a Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit.

St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann announced on February 8, 2023, that the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office had arrested a man on narcotics charges following an investigation by the Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit.

Kawanas Hammond, 45, of the 8500 block of Regiment Drive in Chalmette, Louisiana, was charged with heroin and fentanyl possession with intent to distribute.
Narcotics Unit agents launched an investigation after receiving information that Hammond was involved in illegal drug activity in St. Bernard.

Agents obtained a search warrant for Hammond’s home based on their findings.

Agents recovered several plastic bags containing approximately 15 grams of heroin and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $1,500 during the course of the investigation. In addition, they recovered $1,223 in cash.

A criminal history check on Hammond revealed that he is a convicted felon with four prior convictions for narcotics-related offenses.
Hammond was taken to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the aforementioned charges.

His bond is set at $150,000 USD.
