Louisiana Man Arrested in Connection with Wire Theft After Authorities Install Cameras at Business Experiencing Numerous Burglaries

Sulphur, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported on September 19, 2022, that on Saturday, September 17, at around 5:30 a.m., CPSO deputies were summoned to a business on Highway 1256 in Sulphur, Louisiana, in connection to a burglary in progress. Due to numerous burglaries at the business, CPSO investigators had previously installed video cameras on the premises and were notified that morning of unknown individuals on the property.

Deputies arrived to find a hole in the fence and a bicycle laying on the ground. Deputies were clearing the property when they noticed an unknown man, later identified as Aaron P. Prestenback, 41, of Sulphur. When Prestenback saw authorities, he fled the scene and led deputies on a brief foot pursuit into a nearby neighborhood, where he was captured swiftly.
Deputies reportedly discovered three backpacks containing burglary tools, cut lengths of copper wire, and drug paraphernalia on the business’s property and along the path Prestenback fled. When detectives met with Prestenback, he acknowledged breaking through the fence and stealing the copper wire.

Prestenback was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with simple burglary; theft less than $1,000; simple criminal damage to property; and possession of drug paraphernalia. Judge Michael Canaday set his bond at $21,500.

The inquiry is still ongoing in order to discover additional prospective culprits.

CPSO Deputy Scott LaCaze is the arresting deputy in this instance. CPSO Detective James Graves is the case’s principal investigator, assisted by CPSO Detective Joshua Couch.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
