Louisiana Man Arrested for Possession with the Intent to Distribute Fentanyl

A Louisiana man has been arrested by Louisiana State Police and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, along with several other charges.
Louisiana – Investigators with the Louisiana State Police Narcotics Unit and Louisiana State Police SWAT conducted a search warrant at a residence on 75th Avenue in Baton Rouge on November 3, 2021, resulting in the arrest of Baton Rouge resident Bennie Selvage, 60. Selvage has been under investigation for the alleged distribution of fentanyl and heroin in East Baton Rouge Parish for the past month. Investigators were able to get a search warrant for Selvage’s home based on the information gathered during the investigation. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of $6,798.70 in US dollars, a.38 caliber revolver, 43 grams of fentanyl, and 18 grams of marijuana.
Selvage was in the home at the time the search warrant was executed.
Selvage was taken into custody and put into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for breaking the following laws: 40:966 LRS LRS 14:95E, Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl; Possession of a Firearm with a Controlled Dangerous Substance, LRS 14:95.1; Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon; and Fugitive from the Sheriff’s Office in East Baton Rouge for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
Fentanyl is a strong synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. In the United States, fentanyl is one of the most commonly used medications in overdose deaths. A kilogram of fentanyl has the potential to kill 500,000 people.
