Louisiana Man Arrested for DWI and Vehicular Negligent Injury After a Child was Injured in a Boat Incident

On August 12, 2022, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries LADWF confirmed that on August 11 in Lafourche Parish, enforcement agents arrested a Cutoff, Louisiana man for alleged boating infractions.

Carl Cressionie, 58, was arrested for operating or driving a vessel while impaired (DWI), vehicular negligent injury, and careless vessel operation. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Jail by agents.

The arrest stemmed from a boating incident on the Intracoastal Waterway in Lafourche Parish on June 25. Cressionie was the operator of a boat carrying a 10-year-old passenger wearing a personal flotation device.

Cressionie lost control of the vessel, which capsized, putting both Cressionie and the passenger in the water. Family members in boats following Cressionie and the passenger got them out of the water. The passenger was taken to a nearby boat launch and airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. The passenger was quickly released from the hospital and is expected to recover fully.

Agents determined Cressionie was impaired at the time of the occurrence and took a blood sample. Agents acquired the blood test results in August and discovered that Cressionie was beyond the legal limit for intoxication.

DWI carries a fine of $300 to $1,000 and up to six months in prison. A $1,000 fine and six months in jail are possible penalties for vehicular negligent injuring. The local parish defines punishment for careless operation of a vessel.
