Louisiana Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Over $5k in Electric Service Using Steel Plates in His Meter Box

Jeff Davis Parish, Louisiana – A Louisiana man has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $5,000 in electric service by using steel plates in his meter box.

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that on April 10, Deputies were summoned to a location in the 4300 Block of Hillias Road, in Jennings, Louisiana, in relation to a theft allegation.

Deputies were called when a Jeff Davis Electric employee reportedly detected an unauthorized connection.  Jeff Davis Electric reported that the residence’s electric service was canceled in 2021.
According to Jeff Davis Electric, the unlawful connection resulted in over $5,000.00 in stolen utilities.

Deputies conducting the investigation met with the resident, David Carl Trahan, 61. According to reports from authorities,  Trahan admitted to service theft and informed deputies that a friend wired the meter box with steel plates in order to connect the house’s electricity.

Trahan was arrested and booked into the parish jail on the charge of felony theft.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
