Evangeline Parish, Louisiana - A Ville Platte man has been arrested and charged with aggravated arson after fire officials determined he intentionally set a fire in a senior living apartment complex for elderly and disabled residents in Ville Platte, Louisiana. William McBride, 56, faces serious charges following the incident last Friday, August 1, 2025, which compelled emergency response from the Ville Platte Fire Department shortly before 9 a.m.

Smoke alarms inside the building alerted residents, allowing for a quick and safe evacuation with no reported injuries. According to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal, after an investigation, McBride was identified as the suspect believed to have started the fire within one of the units.
