Louisiana Man Arrested for 2nd Degree Murder in Stabbing Death of 66-Year-Old

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – A 61-year-old man has been arrested and charged with 2nd-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a 66-year-old Baton Rouge resident. The incident occurred on July 24, 2024, when the victim, Michael Kimbrel, was found deceased inside an apartment located on Wooddale Boulevard.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, an autopsy revealed that Kimbrel died as a result of being stabbed. Detectives believe that Kimbrel and the suspect, Alan Coons, were involved in an altercation that led to the fatal stabbing.

Coons was taken into custody on July 29 and is currently being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released any further details about the motive behind the stabbing or the events leading up to the altercation.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
