Louisiana Man Arrested During the Alleged Burglary of a Business and Has Been Charged with Trespassing, Theft, and Other Charges

A Louisiana man has been arrested for trespassing on business property, theft, and other charges. He also reportedly attempted to flee and struck deputies when they approached him.

The St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office stated on January 4, 2023, that on Sunday, January 1, 2023, deputies were summoned to a business for a suspicious person trespassing on the property. When deputies got on the site, they spoke with a business employee and discovered that no one was scheduled to be there that day. Deputies scoured the vicinity and discovered a male suspect on the property.

Wesley Powe of Laplace, Louisiana was eventually identified as the male. As deputies approached Powe and informed him that they were deputies, he reportedly attempted to leave the area. Powe also reportedly began striking deputies after being apprehended. Powe was arrested and taken into custody after resisting deputies. Powe was carrying a backpack containing things usually used in theft, such as a flashlight and multiple pairs of cutting pliers.

Powe was arrested for Unauthorized Entry of a Business, Simple Criminal Damage To Property – $1000-$50,000 (Felony), Resisting An Officer By Flight, Resisting An Officer W/Force Or Violence, Theft – $1000 – $5,000, and Possession Of Tools For A Crime. Powe is being held in jail on a $54,000 bond.

Powe has been arrested 16 times since 2009 for various offenses including theft and narcotics, according to officials.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
