Louisiana Man Arrested Charged with Battery on a Police Officer and Aggravated Flight After a Pursuit and Crash

A Louisiana man has been charged with Battery on a Police Officer and Aggravated Flight, after he allegedly attempted to flee from police, colliding with an officer and later crashing into a parked vehicle before fleeing on foot.

The Shreveport Police Department reported on January 26, 2023, that on January 20, around 10:45 a.m., detectives and Shreveport City Marshal’s Deputies attempted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Ford Street. As officers approached the driver, Caleb Cheatham, he allegedly put the vehicle in drive and attempted to flee, colliding with a Shreveport Police Officer.

The officer avoided deadly contact with the vehicle and was unharmed.

Officers pursued the vehicle into Bossier City, Louisiana, where it crashed into a parked vehicle. Cheatham and an unknown passenger then fled on foot from the vehicle. Cheatham was apprehended with the help of Shreveport Police K-9 “Diesel.”

Cheatham was charged with Battery on a Police Officer as well as Aggravated Flight. During the course of the investigation, two handguns and one rifle were allegedly seized.

The Shreveport Police Department expressed appreciation to the Shreveport City Marshal’s Office, Bossier City Police, the ATF, and K9 Diesel for their assistance and hard work.

Cheatham received minor injuries as a result of the incident. The passenger is still on the loose.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
