Louisiana Man Arrested by Agriculture and Forestry Agents in Connection with Theft of Over 1,000 Bushels of Wheat

Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) revealed on October 18, 2022, that on October 13, a Concordia Parish man was arrested by Brand Inspectors of the Brand Commission. The arrest was made in response to a warrant issued by Tensas Parish in connection with an investigation by the Livestock Brand Commission.

Randall Hunter White, 32, of Clayton, Louisiana, was arrested on a warrant for Felony Theft over $5000. White reportedly acquired approximately 1327 bushels of wheat from a producer in June 2022 for the purpose of delivering the wheat to a grain elevator in Tensas Parish, according to the LDAF’s Livestock Brand Commission inquiry. When White arrived at the grain elevator, he allegedly sold the wheat in his name and kept the proceeds.

At the time of his arrest, White was wanted on further unrelated offenses in Concordia Parish. White is now being held in the Concordia Parish Jail on outstanding Concordia Parish warrants and is awaiting transfer to Tensas Parish. The bond is set at $25,000.

“The LDAF Live Brand Commission often investigates livestock theft, but they are also responsible for investigating all other agricultural crimes in Louisiana. That could be theft of livestock, farm equipment, or in this case, crops,” said LDAF Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M. “The Louisiana State Police commission the Livestock Brand Officers to perform their duties. If the suspect is determined guilty, he will be charged with a felony and held responsible for his crime.”

The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department and the Tensas Parish Sheriff’s Department supported the Livestock Brand Commission in its probe.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry said that the Livestock Brand Commission operates a 24-hour Crimestoppers hotline at (800) 558-9741 for the public to report thefts.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
