Franklinton, Louisiana - A collaborative investigation led by the Louisiana State Police has resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old Franklinton man in connection with a fatal overdose incident. Dayon Dyson was taken into custody on December 7, 2024, and booked into the Washington Parish Jail on charges of distribution of fentanyl and second-degree murder.
The case began on October 6, 2024, when the Franklinton Police Department requested the assistance of the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division in investigating the death of 67-year-old Frankie Crosby. Crosby was found deceased in his vehicle near the 1400 block of Parker Street in Franklinton. Preliminary findings indicated that Crosby's death was the result of an overdose, which was later confirmed by the Washington Parish Coroner as combined drug toxicity due to the presence of cocaine and fentanyl in his system.
Following a thorough investigation involving the Louisiana State Police, Franklinton Police Department, the 22nd Judicial District Court District Attorney's Office, and the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, investigators identified Dyson as the source of the illicit drugs that contributed to Crosby's death. An arrest warrant was secured through the 22nd Judicial District Court, leading to Dyson's apprehension.
Dyson was located and taken into custody without incident at approximately 10:30 a.m. on December 7, 2024. The Louisiana State Police is serving as the lead investigative agency in this case, which remains active and ongoing. Additional charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
