Louisiana Man Arrested After Vehicle GPS Tracker Leads Authorities to His Home in Sulphur

Sulphur, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office stated on December 5, 2022, that on November 29, deputies were summoned to a business on Areno Road in Sulphur, Louisiana, in connection to a stolen automobile.

During the first inquiry, the complainant informed deputies that on November 24, a truck was stolen from the business. Using a GPS tracker installed by the company on the truck, detectives tracked it down to a property on Sonny Todd Road in Sulphur. When detectives arrived at the home, they made contact with a resident, Aaron P. Prestenbach, 41, of Sulphur.

Using the GPS tracker on the truck, it was revealed that the truck was in the same spot where two burglaries happened between November 24 and 28, where several things like copper wiring, electrical panel components, and lead roof jacks were stolen.

Detectives retrieved other goods reported stolen from earlier thefts after searching Prestenbach’s home, which was where the stolen truck was discovered. With the help of the CPSO Real Time Crime Center, Detectives were also able to confirm Prestenbach went to Texas on November 28 and scrapped copper wire.

Prestenbach was taken into custody and placed in the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He is charged with two charges of simple burglary, two counts of theft from $1,000 to $5,000, theft from $5,000 to $25,000, theft over $25,000, and simple criminal damage to property. Judge Tony Fazzio imposed a bond of $116,500 for him earlier today.

The investigations are ongoing, and additional charges are possible.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
