Vernon Parish, Louisiana – The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office revealed on November 16, 2022, that at approximately 8:03 a.m. the Vernon Parish E911 Communications Center received a call from a male subject saying he had just shot an intruder at his home on McConathy Road in Anacoco, Louisiana.

Immediately after that, at 8:05 a.m. The Vernon Parish E911 Communications Center received a call from a female reporting that a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound had crashed his vehicle near her home on Hammock Road in Anacoco, Louisiana.

Deputies and detectives from the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived to both locations and found that both 911 calls were in regard to the same occurrence.
Deputies discovered a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his arm. The subject was transported from Hammock Road to a landing zone by the Anacoco Town Hall. The victim was flown to a hospital in Rapides Parish for treatment via life flight.

Deputies and detectives arrived at the McConathy Road address and talked with Christopher Riggs, the homeowner.
Riggs first stated that he shot a male subject who attempted to break into his residence.
Christopher and Lindsay Riggs were taken to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office for interviews by detectives.

During the questioning, it was discovered that Lindsay Riggs had misrepresented her relationship with the victim to her husband.
The victim was allegedly lured to the home under false pretenses by the two, then shot by Christopher Riggs.

Christopher Riggs, 38, of Anacoco, Louisiana was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and criminal conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.
Lindsay Riggs, 35, of Anacoco, was arrested and charged with Principal to Attempted Second Degree Murder and Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Second Degree Murder.

Their bond has not been set, and both remain in the custody of the VPSO.

At the time of publication, the victim was still receiving medical treatment but was expected to recover.

This incident is still being investigated.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
