Loranger, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L started looking into a deadly single-vehicle crash that occurred on June 5 around 3:30 p.m. on LA Hwy 443 close to Chappepeela Road in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash resulted in the death of 43-year-old Jill Tarver from Hammond, Louisiana.

In the beginning stages of the investigation, it was discovered that the crash happened when Tarver was driving south on LA Hwy 443 in a 2014 Toyota Camry. The Toyota veered off the road and hit a tree for reasons that are still being looked into.

According to Louisiana State Police, Tarver was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries in the crash. She was declared dead at the scene. Tarver’s passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. A blood sample was taken from Tarver for testing as part of the investigation.

According to statistics, wearing your seat belt correctly can greatly decrease the likelihood of injury or death in a vehicle crash. Louisiana law mandates that all occupants in a vehicle must always have their seat belts fastened, regardless of where they are seated.
