Mound, Louisiana - A fatal two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 near Louisiana Highway 602-2 claimed the lives of two Monroe residents early Wednesday morning, July 9, 2025. Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to the scene shortly before 4:00 a.m., launching a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2025 Toyota RAV4 was traveling east on Interstate 20 with two occupants who were both properly restrained. Behind the Toyota, a 2001 BMW Z3, driven by 69-year-old Keith Robinson of Monroe, was also heading east. For reasons still under investigation, Robinson's BMW struck the rear of the Toyota at a high rate of speed.
After the impact, the BMW veered off the right side of the highway and collided with a tree. Robinson, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His front-seat passenger, 39-year-old Rachelle Jefferson of Monroe, was also unrestrained and died at the scene.
The driver and front-seat passenger of the Toyota RAV4, both wearing seat belts, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
State Police collected routine toxicology samples from both drivers as part of standard investigative protocol. The cause of the crash remains undetermined pending further analysis and review of all evidence.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of seat belt usage.
