Louisiana Inmate Dies in Fight at Riverbend Detention Center, State Police Investigating

Lake Providence, Louisiana – A homicide investigation is currently underway at the Riverbend Detention Center in East Carroll Parish, Louisiana, following a fatal altercation between two inmates on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

According to the Louisiana State Police, detectives from the Monroe Field Office (LSP MFO) were requested by the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office (ECPSO) to investigate the incident, which occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. inside the detention center’s dormitory.

Preliminary findings indicate that the two inmates engaged in a physical fight, resulting in the death of one of the individuals involved. The LSP MFO will serve as the lead investigating agency, with the ECPSO providing assistance.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released further details at this time. The cause of the fight and the identities of the inmates involved have not been disclosed.

The Riverbend Detention Center, a correctional facility located in East Carroll Parish, is operated by the Louisiana Department of Corrections. The facility houses adult male inmates and provides various rehabilitation programs and services.

The LSP MFO and ECPSO are working together to gather evidence and piece together the events surrounding the deadly altercation.
