Calcasieu Parish, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced the closure of the eastbound lanes on Interstate 10 at the US 165 overpass due to adverse weather conditions. This closure is a direct response to freezing temperatures that have made driving hazardous in the area.

Motorists traveling eastbound on I-10 are advised to utilize US 90 as an alternative route to avoid the affected section of the interstate.

Officials urge all drivers to reconsider their necessity to travel during freezing weather. When travel is essential, it is crucial to exercise caution, as icy roads can significantly impair vehicle handling and braking. The department emphasizes that safety should be the top priority for all motorists.

Freezing conditions can lead to the formation of black ice, a thin layer of ice on the road that is difficult to see but can cause vehicles to lose traction. Drivers are encouraged to reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and be prepared for sudden stops.
