Louisiana Hit-and-Run Involving Pedestrian on US 90 Results the Death of One Woman and the Arrest of Another
Jefferson, Louisiana – A hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian on US 90 in Louisiana resulted in the death of one woman and the arrest of another.
The Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported on February 12, 2023, that on February 11, 2023, at about 7:30 p.m., Troopers of LSP Troop B responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on US 90 (Jefferson Highway) near Shrewsbury Road in Jefferson, Louisiana. Christiene Rome, age 55, from Jefferson, Louisiana, perished as a result of this crash.
The preliminary investigation found that an unidentified SUV was going westbound on US 90 near Shrewsbury Road. Rome was simultaneously traversing the westbound lanes of US 90 on foot. Rome sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by the SUV. The driver of the SUV went west on US 90 without stopping.
Troopers were able to identify the SUV involved in the incident as a 2020 GMC Yukon Denali by utilizing investigative resources. Further inquiry found that the vehicle’s driver at the time of the collision was 37-year-old Brittany Jackson of Gretna, Louisiana. As a consequence of the inquiry, Jackson was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Hit and Run Involving a Fatality.
Pedestrians and motorists alike are asked to maintain vigilance and pay great attention to their surroundings while traveling on local roadways. Pedestrian-related accidents can usually be avoided by adhering to a few simple safety tips. Pedestrians should always walk on the road in well-lit places while wearing clothing of a light color or with reflective material. Moreover, pedestrians should always presume that incoming motorists cannot see them, particularly at night. To increase safety, pedestrians should only cross streets in well-lit, designated places and should always walk facing traffic.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
