ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. — A single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 96 in St. Martin Parish has claimed the life of a 61-year-old New Iberia woman, according to information released by Louisiana State Police.

Troop I troopers responded shortly after 10 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2025, to the crash site on LA 96 near Louisiana Highway 345.

Crash Details

Investigators said the preliminary investigation shows that 61-year-old Kongkham Phommachanh of New Iberia was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra westbound on LA 96.

For reasons that remain under investigation, troopers reported the Tundra failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and overturned.

Phommachanh was properly restrained at the time of the crash, according to State Police. Despite using a seat belt, she sustained serious injuries when the vehicle overturned.

She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where she later died from her injuries.

Ongoing Investigation And Toxicology Testing

As part of standard procedure in fatal roadway incidents, troopers collected a toxicology sample from Phommachanh. That sample has been submitted for analysis to determine whether any impairing substances were a factor.

Louisiana State Police said the crash remains under investigation. No further details, including roadway conditions or speed, have been released at this time.
