Rapides Parish, Louisiana - A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 71 near Bill Warner Road in Louisiana resulted in the death of a 29-year-old man from Hessmer on the afternoon of July 28, 2025, according to Louisiana State Police Troop E. The incident occurred at approximately 4:42 p.m., prompting response from authorities and emergency personnel.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2009 Toyota Camry, operated by Michael Dauzat Jr., of Hessmer, Louisiana, was heading southbound on U.S. 71. For reasons still under investigation, Dauzat attempted to cross both northbound lanes to access an adjacent service road. This maneuver placed the Camry in the direct path of a northbound 1993 Chevrolet Caprice. The Caprice then struck the Camry, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.
Dauzat, whose seat belt usage is currently unknown, suffered severe injuries in the crash. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Caprice’s driver, who was properly restrained, experienced moderate injuries and was also taken to a local medical facility for treatment.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and routine toxicology samples were collected from each driver as part of the standard investigative process. Louisiana State Police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine all the contributing factors.
