Houma, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday evening, December 14, 2025, at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 57 and Thompson Road in Terrebonne Parish. The incident claimed the life of 36-year-old Pernell Naquin of Houma.

According to information released by Louisiana State Police Troop C, the crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. Investigators said a 2021 Buick Encore was traveling south on LA Highway 57, while a 2008 Honda Civic driven by Naquin was traveling north on the same highway.

For reasons that remain under investigation, troopers reported that the Buick failed to yield to the approaching Honda as it entered the intersection at Thompson Road. The Honda then struck the Buick in the intersection.

Naquin, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

The driver of the Buick, who was also unrestrained, suffered moderate injuries. That driver was transported to an out-of-area hospital for treatment. No additional details about the driver’s condition or identity have been released at this time.

As is standard procedure in fatal and serious injury crashes, routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers. Those samples will be analyzed to determine whether impairment was a factor.

Troopers did not immediately release further information about roadway conditions, lighting, or potential contributing factors such as speed or distraction. The crash remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop C.

Louisiana State Police have not announced any charges or citations, and no timeline has been provided for completion of the full crash report.
