Schriever, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police Troop C is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on June 5, 2025, on Louisiana Highway 311 near Fellowship Lane. The incident, which happened shortly after 4:00 p.m., resulted in the deaths of a 12-year-old and a 6-year-old, both passengers in one of the vehicles.

According to preliminary findings, a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Cherri Breaux was heading south on LA Hwy 311. At the same time, a 2023 Kenworth—a type of large commercial truck—was traveling north. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota attempted to make a left turn into a driveway, crossing into the path of the oncoming Kenworth. The truck struck the Toyota on its right side.

State police reported that the Kenworth’s driver was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash. In contrast, none of the four occupants inside the Toyota were using seatbelts at the time of the incident. All occupants of the Toyota were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Cherri Breaux, the Toyota driver, sustained minor injuries. One juvenile passenger suffered moderate injuries, while the 12-year-old and 6-year-old passengers received severe injuries and later died at the hospital.

As is standard in serious crashes, a toxicology sample was collected from Breaux and submitted for analysis. The Kenworth driver was not suspected of impairment and voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed no alcohol was present.

This crash remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police. Authorities have not released further details regarding possible contributing factors, such as distraction, speed, or road conditions, pending the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.

Louisiana State Police continue to emphasize the importance of proper seatbelt use for all vehicle occupants, regardless of age or seating position. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration consistently shows that seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of injury and death in vehicle crashes.
