Calhoun, Louisiana – A 7-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run crash on Louisiana Highway 151, prompting an ongoing investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop F.
Messiah Harris of Calhoun was pronounced deceased on Sunday, October 5, 2025, one day after the crash occurred on Saturday afternoon. The incident took place on Louisiana Highway 151, just north of New Mineral Spring Road, shortly after 3:00 p.m.
According to the preliminary investigation conducted by Louisiana State Police, a 2011 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Louisiana Highway 151 when the vehicle veered right off the roadway for unknown reasons. The truck struck several trees after leaving the road.
The driver of the Ford fled the scene immediately following the crash and remains unidentified. State police believe the driver sustained injuries during the incident based on evidence collected at the scene.
Harris was seated in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash but was improperly restrained, according to investigators. The child suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Louisiana State Police Troop F received notification on Sunday that Harris had died from his injuries sustained in the crash.
The circumstances surrounding why the Ford F-150 veered off the roadway remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details about the condition of the unidentified driver or the extent of their injuries.
