Red River Parish, Louisiana - A two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 1 north of Yearwood Road has resulted in the loss of one life and left another driver severely injured. The incident, which occurred around 4:10 a.m. this morning, is currently under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop G.

According to preliminary findings, a 2017 Hyundai SUV, driven by 26-year-old Christian West of Bossier City, Louisiana was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 1 when it crossed the centerline and collided with a 2005 Ford pickup driven by 64-year-old Melvin Henix of Shreveport, Louisiana who was heading north on the highway. The reasons behind the Hyundai's crossing of the centerline are still unclear and are being investigated further.

Tragically, Henix, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. West, also properly restrained, suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The investigation has revealed that impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. However, standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and have been submitted for analysis to confirm this.
