Louisiana Head-on Crash on Louisiana Highway 3170 Claims Life of Pineville Man

Rapides Parish, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3170 on June 29, 2024, resulted in the tragic loss of 69-year-old Oddis L. Dunbar Jr. of Pineville, Louisiana. The incident, which occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m., involved a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2023 Hyundai SUV.

According to the initial investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop E, the Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by 68-year-old Donald R. Jones of Alexandria, Louisiana was traveling westbound on Louisiana Highway 3170 when it crossed the centerline into the eastbound travel lane, colliding head-on with the Hyundai SUV driven by Dunbar.

Dunbar, who was wearing his seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Jones, also restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and are currently being analyzed.

While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities are highlighting the importance of staying alert and focused while driving. Distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in Louisiana, with devastating consequences.

This incident marks the 31st fatal crash investigated by Troop E in 2024, resulting in a total of 34 fatalities.
