Louisiana Female Offender Escapes from Jail and is Apprehended in Under an Hour

 Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana – A Louisiana female offender escaped from Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office DC-3 Women’s Jail in Cottonport, Louisiana, but was apprehended in under an hour and returned to custody.

Deputies from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) DC-3 Women’s Jail Facility in Cottonport, Louisiana, reported the escape of a female offender being transported to DC-3 on February 2, 2023, at approximately 1:15 a.m.

Further investigation revealed that after being transported to APSO DC-3 and being unloaded, the offender pushed the door of the transportation vehicle open and fled on foot. Soon after, local law enforcement was notified, and the Avoyelles 911 Communication Center issued a parish-wide BOLO. Deputies and detectives from Avoyelles Parish converged on the scene. The escapee was apprehended and returned to custody without incident in Cottonport, Louisiana, about a half mile away from the DC-3 Women’s Jail Facility, in just over an hour, at approximately 2:34 a.m.
Kenicia L. Tibbs, 30, of Wilkins Ave. in New Roads, Louisiana, was apprehended for Simple Escape and booked into the Avoyelles Parish DC-1 Jail Facility. Tibbs was imprisoned for contempt of court and failure to appear charges stemming from Pointe Coupee Parish. Tibbs’ criminal record showed that she was not a violent offender.
An investigation into the incident is still underway.

Sheriff Dauzat of Avoyelles Parish thanked the local law enforcement personnel who assisted in the search, as well as the Deputies who acted quickly and successfully to apprehend the escapee.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
