Louisiana Felon Sentenced to More than 8 Years for Distribution of Fentanyl and Firearms Charges

Louisiana – United States Attorney Duane A. Evans announced on June 9, 2022, that Christopher May, 30, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced on June 8, 2022 to a total of 106 months (8 years, 10 months) imprisonment in the custody of the United States Bureau of Prisons, to be followed by a five-year term of supervised release.

In particular, the Court sentenced May to 46 months in prison for possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute it in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(C); as well as three counts of possessing a firearm and/or ammunition while a convicted felon in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2). Each count must be served concurrently. May was also sentenced to sixty months in prison for one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(c)(1)(A)(i) to be served consecutively to all other counts.

As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and collaborates with community-based prevention and reentry programs to achieve long-term crime reductions.

U.S. Attorney Evans praised the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s work in investigating the case. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Charles D. Strauss.
