Louisiana Felon Sentenced to 6 Years After Being Found in Possession of a Firearm
Louisiana - On November 3, 2022, United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced that Treymon Daykeem Reed, 29, of Alexandria, Louisiana, has been sentenced by United States District Judge David C. Joseph to 72 months (6 years) in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for illegal possession of firearms.
Reed was charged in February 2022 and pled guilty to two counts of felon in possession of a firearm on August 10, 2022. The charges are the result of two separate incidences in the Alexandria area. The first occurred on September 15, 2020, when an Alexandria Police Department officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Reed. Officers smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle during the stop and asked if there was any inside. Reed told investigators he had thrown it out the window and agreed to a vehicle search. Officers discovered a large bag of marijuana, 62 marijuana cigarettes, 194 oxycodone pills, and a Sig Sauer 9mm magazine with two rounds of ammo inside the vehicle.
The second incident occurred on February 1, 2021, when an officer from the Alexandria Police Department stopped a car for failing to stop at a stop sign. Reed was identified as the driver. The officer saw Reed had a large object in his pants pocket when he stepped out of the vehicle. Officers patted him down and discovered two large packages of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket. Officers later found a loaded Glock 9mm pistol and $13,000 cash between the driver's seat and the center console.
Reed had past felony convictions for second-degree battery in 2013 and assault by drive-by shooting in 2009, making him ineligible to own a firearm or ammunition. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives examined the firearms and ammunition confiscated during both traffic stops (ATF).
The ATF and the Alexandria Police Department investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamilla A. Bynog.
