New Orleans, Louisiana – On August 4, 2022, United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier sentenced Stephone Bridges to 64 months (5 years) in the Bureau of Prisons for being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of the Federal Gun Control Act, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.
Bridges was charged in a one-count indictment on November 19, 2021, with possessing a Glock 49x 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a red translucent magazine with 18 live rounds while a convicted felon. Bridges’ prison sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release, and he must pay a $100 obligatory special assessment fee.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which is the focal point of the Department of Justice’s efforts to reduce violent crime. PSN is an evidence-based program that has been shown to reduce violent crime. PSN brings together a diverse range of stakeholders to identify the most pressing violent crime issues in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this plan, PSN focuses enforcement resources on the most violent offenders and collaborates with community-based prevention and rehabilitation initiatives to achieve long-term crime reductions.
US Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the New Orleans Police Department, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Rachal Cassagne, an Assistant United States Attorney, conducted the prosecution.
