New Orleans, Louisiana - A 38-year-old Honduran national received a sentence of 101 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to multiple drug and firearm charges in Louisiana federal court.

Miguel Angel Solorzano-Dominguez was sentenced September 25, 2025, on four federal counts including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, and reentry of a removed alien.

U.S. District Court records show Solorzano-Dominguez will serve five years of supervised release following his prison term and must pay a mandatory $400 special assessment fee.

The charges stem from events on January 29, 2025, when federal authorities say Solorzano-Dominguez possessed cocaine and a Taurus Model G2C nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistol. Court documents indicate he used the firearm to support drug trafficking activities.

Federal prosecutors noted Solorzano-Dominguez had a previous felony conviction in Mississippi, which prohibited him from legally possessing firearms or ammunition. Additionally, he had illegally reentered the United States after being officially deported on July 9, 2010.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal immigration, cartels, and transnational criminal organizations. The operation combines resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) programs.

Multiple law enforcement agencies participated in the investigation, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, United States Border Patrol, Kenner Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Gretna Major Crimes Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit prosecuted the case.

Federal sentencing guidelines typically impose enhanced penalties for defendants with prior criminal histories who combine drug trafficking with firearm possession. The illegal reentry charge carries additional consequences for individuals who return to the United States without authorization after formal removal proceedings.

Operation Take Back America represents a coordinated federal response to cross-border criminal activity, emphasizing prosecution of cases involving both immigration violations and serious crimes such as drug trafficking and weapons offenses.
