Delta, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Louisiana on Thursday, August 8, 2024, resulted in the tragic loss of an unidentified driver’s life. The incident occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. near LA 602, involving a Ford Transit and a 2024 Volvo Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).

According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop F, the Ford Transit was traveling east on the westbound shoulder of I-20 when the crash occurred. The driver of the CMV, which was traveling west in the right lane, attempted to move to the left lane upon observing the Ford. However, for reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Ford steered into the path of the CMV, resulting in a head-on collision. The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire, claiming the life of the Ford’s driver at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the CMV were transported to nearby hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Louisiana State Police Troop F is urging motorists to exercise caution and good judgment while driving. “Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained,” they emphasized. While not all crashes are survivable, taking these simple precautions can often mean the difference between life and death.
