Baker, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash occurred on LA 964 in East Baton Rouge Parish on July 31, 2024, resulting in the tragic death of 41-year-old Derek Guessfeld of Baker, Louisiana. The incident took place shortly after 9:00 a.m. near Groom Road, involving a 2012 Nissan Altima and a 2023 Nissan Armada.
According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop A, Guessfeld was driving the Altima southbound on LA 964 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed the centerline into the opposing lane and collided head-on with the northbound Armada. Guessfeld, who was properly restrained, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Armada, also properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The crash remains under investigation, and troopers are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving.
