Covington, Louisiana – A two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 437 near South Fitzmorris Road claimed the life of a Washington state resident on Monday afternoon, according to Louisiana State Police Troop L. The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. on May 26, 2025, prompting a response from emergency personnel.
Preliminary details from investigators indicate that a 2013 Nissan Altima, traveling northbound on LA Hwy 437, attempted a left turn onto South Fitzmorris Road. During this maneuver, the Nissan entered the southbound lane and was struck on the passenger side by a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer traveling in the opposite direction.
Marie Henry, 53, of Mukilteo, Washington, was a passenger in the Nissan Altima. Authorities report that Henry was properly restrained. Despite this precaution, she sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.
The Nissan's driver and two additional passengers, all of whom were also properly restrained, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. These individuals received medical attention at a nearby hospital. Similarly, occupants of the Chevrolet Blazer—all using seatbelts—were transported for care with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
As part of standard investigative procedure in serious traffic incidents, Louisiana State Police collected routine toxicology samples from both drivers. These samples will be analyzed to rule out impairment by alcohol or drugs, a common protocol in crash investigations.
Officials continue to examine the circumstances leading up to the crash, including factors such as road conditions, vehicle speed, and driver actions. The investigation’s findings will help determine any contributing causes and whether charges may be filed.
