Greenwell Springs, Louisiana – A tragic crash involving two tractor-trailers and a passenger vehicle on Louisiana Highway 37 resulted in the death of a 42-year-old Port Allen woman on Monday, according to Louisiana State Police.

Chiquita Rogers died from injuries sustained in the three-vehicle collision that occurred shortly before noon on April 14, 2025, near Sandy Creek Community Road in East Baton Rouge Parish.

According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop A, Rogers was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound on LA 37 when she stopped to make a left turn. While her vehicle was stopped, a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer also traveling northbound struck the rear of her Chevrolet.

The impact pushed Rogers’ vehicle into the southbound lane, where it was then struck on the passenger side by a 2020 Mack tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction.

Investigators noted that Rogers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

Both commercial vehicle drivers were properly restrained and escaped the incident without injuries, troopers reported.

As part of standard procedure in fatal crash investigations, toxicology samples were collected from all drivers involved and will be submitted for analysis. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine why the Freightliner struck Rogers’ vehicle.

State Police remind all motorists that Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day or night. Wearing a seatbelt is one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death in the event of a crash.
