Marrero, Louisiana – A tragic single-vehicle crash on US 90B near Gaudet Drive on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at around 5 am, resulted in the loss of life of the front passenger, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop B, a 2001 Honda Civic was traveling east on the upper level of US 90B when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run off the left side of the roadway and crash into the guardrail. The Honda continued over the guardrail, falling to the lower level of US 90B, where the unrestrained front passenger was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. A routine toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis to determine if any substances contributed to the crash.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts while driving. “Although not all crashes are survivable, wearing your seatbelt drastically decreases your chance of injury or death during a crash,” said Troopers. Additionally, distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in the state. By taking simple precautions like wearing a seatbelt, following all traffic laws, and adhering to speed limits, individuals can significantly increase their safety on the road.
