St. Martin Parish, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police Troop I received a report on December 21, 2023, just before 2:00 p.m., about a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 347, around 2 miles north of Louisiana Highway 96. The crash resulted in the death of Douglas Reese Adams, a 59-year-old from New Iberia, Louisiana.

Initial findings indicate that Adams was driving a 2023 Honda Accord north on LA 347 when he failed to navigate a left turn and veered off the road. The car then collided with a tree and came to a stop in the ditch. Despite being restrained, Adams sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner's Office.

A standard toxicology sample has been taken for analysis, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
